My approach is rooted in the commonalities that exist between therapeutic approaches rather than in one specific tradition. I draw from across cognitive, narrative, feminist, and psychoanalytic modalities.

I am skilled and experienced in addressing a diverse range of challenges with individuals, couples and families.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness and meditative techniques are a great supplement to traditional talk therapy, as they can greatly help facilitate self-compassion, self-awareness, and greater equanimity in stressful situations.

Mindfulness practice is primarily about cultivating a capacity for present-moment self-awareness and concentration that can then be extended to:
  • reduce reactivity in stressful situations
  • get to know one's mental and emotional habits
  • learn to be present and work with  difficult emotions, therefore redirecting our energies towards healthy and adaptive behaviours rather than self-defeating patterns, like over-eating, avoidance, drug use, isolation, outbursts of anger, etc.

In addition, meditative practices like 'metta bhavana' (loving kindness) can help cultivate greater self-compassion, empathy for others, and can be instrumental in learning to forgive and heal.

Sometimes there is no better or more direct way to improve mood and increase overall wellness than through physical activity. I'm happy to work with you on health and fitness goals, aiming to tap into the kinder, intrinsic, sustaining voices that can help us incorporate exercise and movement into our lives, without the self-defeating cycles driven by shame and measuring up.
